Hole 17
Par 4: Purple 428 / Gold 399 / Blue 352 / SI 2
Without doubt the stiffest challenge Royal Blackheath has to offer. Sometimes you just have to
step up and hit a good shot and the tee shot here is no exception. Bunkers and rough to the left
and a ditch and copse of trees to the right mean nothing but a straight drive will be rewarded.
The challenge doesn’t relent on the second shot which is played with only the top of the pin in view
and needs to either carry the large mound and bunker 50 yards short of the green or be positioned
to leave a short pitch and chance of a one putt par. Another false front means that
any shot not pitching onto the flat of the green will get rejected.
A par will feel like a birdie and a bogey five isn’t the end of the world for most.
